Criminal charges can carry very serious consequences. It never benefits an individual to ignore the charges, or assume that they will be acquitted or see the charges dropped. If an individual in the Bronx is charged with a crime, regardless of the nature of the crime, it is imperative to seek the experience of a skilled legal attorney well versed in defending individuals facing a variety of charges.
That being said, sometimes criminal charge can seem like they arise out of circumstances that could be considered humorous. However, the consequences associated with a conviction are very real, and rarely funny.
An out-of-state woman that is 20 years old is currently facing criminal charges after committing what she thought was a harmless April Fools' Day prank on Monday. The 20-year-old called police early in the morning of April 1 to report a robbery at the restaurant she was working at. Police did not find it funny when she revealed that there was no such happening, and that the whole thing was merely a joke.
In return, authorities arrested the woman and charged her with falsely summoning police. The charges were not a joke. The penalty for a conviction of this crime could mean that the woman could face up to a year behind bars, and a hefty fine of $2,500. There is a lot at stake if this woman fails to defend against these charges.
So while this may seem silly, it is in fact a serious charge that warrants handling with an aggressive defense. Individuals are best positioned to mitigate the risk of serious criminal penalties by finding an ally in a skilled attorney.
