Announcer Al Michaels charged with drunk driving

If you are a big sports fan, then you are probably familiar with some of the most favored commentators. One that has been in the business for years, however, faces serious criminal charges. This happened after a routine traffic stop.

NBC Sports announcer Al Michaels has been arrested for drunk driving charges. According to reports, the man was pulled over in his vehicle after he purportedly made an illegal U-turn.

The sports commentator is famous for his work during NBC's Sunday Night Football NFL coverage. In fact, he is the broadcaster who once asked, "Do you believe in miracles?" during the 1980 Winter Olympics.

Almost every drunk driving charge evolves from a traffic stop. If authorities witness a vehicle speeding, for example, this is grounds to stop the car. In this case, when Michaels was pulled over, authorities supposedly smelled alcohol on his breath. The announcer was arrested shortly after a field sobriety test.

While charges are pending for the commentator, this does not mean much. This is merely an accusation. Of course, the announcer will have to contest the offense if he hopes to keep a drunk driving charge off of his record. One way to do this might be by challenging the initial traffic stop, which led to the criminal charge.

If you have been accused of driving under the influence, it may help to sit down with an experienced criminal law attorney. A defense lawyer can help investigate the circumstances surrounding the criminal charges and help assess any viable options for contesting the drunk driving defense.
